Earlier yesterday, Microsoft has officially announced Windows Live Messenger app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The software’s initial purpose is chatting with your Windows Live and Yahoo! Messenger buddies. If you choose to, you can also receive IM notifications when the app is closed. Finally, the App also lets you access your Hotmail account, compose, read and reply to e-mails.

Apart from this, it also has a few social networking tie-ins, such as a Social tab that brings all of your friends’ status updates and photos into one place. It also allows you to embed photos, links, and other content into status messages, and even “style” photos with photo effects that are built-in.

According to Microsoft, the Windows Live Messenger for iPhone will soon support tie-ins with Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and MySpace. Windows Live Messenger is available in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and France. So far, the app is available in English and French languages only. The current version (1.0.1) of Windows Live Messenger for the iPhone requires iPhone OS 3.0 and also compatible with the latest iOS 4. Here are some screenshots of the app.
