Windows fans can now use Facebook’s Universal Windows app
It's in beta, though.
The long awaited universal app for Facebook, on Windows 10, is finally complete. The app will of course work across Windows 10 devices, including phones, laptops and PCs. According to a report by Windows Central, a beta version of the app is available on the Windows Store right now. Till now, Microsoft has been the one developing the Facebook app for its users on Windows.
Facebook has earlier launched an Instagram app for Windows, along with a PC and tablet app for Facebook as well. However, the world’s largest social network never really seemed to pay attention to Microsoft’s platform. The new Facebook Universal app for Windows comes at a time when Microsoft’s mobile fortunes have been at an all time low recently. Of course, Microsoft remains quite strong in the PC segment.
Facebook had announced apps on UWP for both the social network, and Facebook Messenger, which were expected this year. So, a Messenger app for Windows users should follow suit soon, at least in the beta stage. Whether Facebook continues to develop and support the app, though, will depend on how many users actually use it.
