Microsoft is planning to bring its latest Windows 10 to some of its low-end Lumia smartphones. According to reports, Windows 10 preview for phones will be launched soon, and some handsets with 512 MB of RAM will get it as well.
Microsoft's Garbiel Aul, who's leading the Windows 10 Insider program, stated that he's currently testing Windows 10 a Nokia Lumia 635, and the OS is "very smooth on it overall." Microsoft's Lumia 635 is a budget smartphone which runs on Windows Phone 8 and comes with a Snapdragon 400 processor coupled with 512 MB of RAM. If Windows 10 runs smoothly on the Lumia 635, it will most probably run well on other budget Lumia devices like the Lumia 530, Lumia 525 and even the Lumia 520.
Microsoft demonstrated the smartphone version of Windows 10 last month at its BUILD conference and stated that the company's aim was for the majority of Lumia phones running Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 to be upgraded to the new OS. It singled out models such as the Lumia 735, Lumia 435 as well as the premium Lumia 930.
Windows 10 will feature notifications that stay in sync across smartphones, tablets and PCs, and will come with full-featured versions of Office apps as well as a new version of Microsoft's voice assistant Cortana. Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group, stated that the company is planning to make apreview version of Windows 10 for smartphones available this month.
