The ROM is only available for the LTE-enabled variant of the Xiaomi Mi 4, which was not launched in India

The Windows 10 ROM for the Xiaomi Mi 4 is now available for download from the MIUI forum. However, it seems like Mi 4 users in India waiting to try the OS on their phones will have to wait. The ROM is only available for the LTE-enabled version of Xiaomi’s flagship phone which is not available in the country. Those with an LTE-enabled variant of the Mi 4 can get the ROM as well as instructions on how to flash their device by becoming a part of Microsoft’s Windows Insider Program. However, the post on the MIUI forum also warned users that “There may be some unpredicted bugs still, think twice before you flash.”

A few days ago, Xiaomi co-founder and CEO, Bin Lin, posted a teaser on Weibo which suggested a Windows 10 Mobile launch of the Mi 4. Back in March this year, Microsoft announced that it was teaming up with Xiaomi and a select group of Mi 4 power users will be invited to test Windows 10 for Mobile by downloading the Windows 10 Technical Preview. Soon after, pictures of the Xiaomi Mi 4 running Windows 10 appeared online.

The Xiaomi Mi 4 comes with a 5-inch Full HD display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM. The phone is available in 16GB and 64GB variants and there are no slots for memory expansion. At the back is a 13MP camera while at the front is an 8MP camera. The phone also comes with a 3080mAh battery.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950XL were launched in India recently and are the first devices to run Windows 10 for Mobile straight out of the box. The phones are priced at Rs. 43,699 and Rs. 49,399 respectively and will be available from December 11. The Lumia 950 comes with a 5.2-inch QHD display and a Snapdragon 808 SoC. The 950XL on the other hand comes with a larger 5.7-inch QHD display with a Snapdragon 810 SoC. Both devices come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage which can be expanded via a microSD card. The two phones are equipped with a 20MP primary camera with optical image stabilisation and Carl Zeiss optics.
