Samsung Galaxy Z Fold is one of the most popular foldable smartphones in the world. This year, the South Korean tech conglomerate released the fourth iteration of the device, i.e., the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It comes with an AMOLED display, is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Soc, and features a triple rear camera setup. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 also supports inputs via an S-Pen. But there's a catch. Although the foldable device supports S-Pen, it does have room for the stylus in its chassis, as the Galaxy Note series did. However, that might change soon.
Recently, The Elec published a report saying that Samsung could add an S-Pen slot in its future Galaxy Z Fold phone. Per the report, Samsung had plans to include an S-Pen in the Galaxy Z Fold 4's chassis, but that did not work out due to space limitations. Nevertheless, if the report turns out to be accurate, we should see a Galaxy Z Fold 5 next year with space for the S-Pen.
Why does this matter anyway? Well, the latest Fold from the company, Galaxy Z Fold 4, comes with an S-Pen, neither in the phone nor in the box. This means that users not only have to purchase the S-Pen separately, but they also have to take care of the stylus as a separate device.
Although some cases come with a cylindrical housing that fits the S-Pen perfectly, it is still not as convenient as the in-built housing on the Galaxy Note or the S22 Ultra. Second, users have to charge the S-Pen separately with a Type-C charger. The inclusion of an S-Pen slot into the phone chassis will solve all these problems.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series is a technological marvel. It is one of the few smartphones that have a working foldable display. While Samsung still has to perfect the hinge mechanism on its Galaxy Z Fold series, it has come a long way from its release in 2019. However, it is not easy to pack all the hardware components in a form factor containing two halves connected by a hinge.
Coming to the S-Pen, Samsung does not only have to make room for the stylus in Galaxy Z Fold's chassis but a charging mechanism as well. Further, Samsung is trying to make the Galaxy Fold series more durable and lightweight, making it more challenging to leave space for the S-Pen. However, there is no reason why Samsung won't be able to showcase yet another feat of engineering and design.
