Why Google’s Android Silver program is still on hold
Google's Android Silver program to bring stock Android to high-end flagship devices has been delayed indefinitely.
Google’s plan to put stock Android versions on high-end flagship smartphones which they could control has been stalled. The Android Silver program is hanging in uncertainty since some employees are expressing “serious doubts” about the program as claimed by The Information.
Google which was happy selling its Nexus series of smartphones was rumored to be working with various OEMs to make the Android Silver program a reality. It seems like the departure of key executive Nikesh Arora in July started the whole domino effect. He was the man in charge of Google’s relationships and business with various carriers and phone manufacturers.
The rumored Android Silver program meant that we would have seen high-end phones running stock Android with no bloatware and which would get their updates directly from Google. It is was also rumored that the Nexus program is going down the drain as well but recent updates have suggested that the Nexus program might live.
