Vodafone to disconnect prepaid numbers inactive for 60 days
Vodafone India has announced that it is going to disconnect prepaid numbers that have not been used (no voice calls, SMS & Data) for 60 days. The telecom operator says its decision is triggered by the new government guidelines about the new number allocation series, based on the active subscribers. The company said that the new policies have led to shortage of new numbers for all the telecom operators.
Vodafone’s new move is not going to affect the regular users. However, the move may affect the prepaid subscribers who have not been using their SIM cards for a long time. Also, the Vodafone subscribers, who have purchased a lifetime plan and recharge only once in six months to keep the SIM active, may also suffer. They will be now required to recharge after every 60 days. Also, the subscribers who use multiple SIMs are also going to be hit.
Vodafone’s move is going to hit some 10-million subscribers who have already been classified as “irregular users”. Vodafone has followed the footsteps of another private telecom operator Airtel, which recently announced that it would block numbers that were inactive for 60 days.
