Days after slashing 3G tariff up to 80 percent, telecom giant Vodafone India has announced a new package that allows users to avail a whopping 60 percent discount on voice, SMS and data services on international roaming.

Vodafone subscribers can activate the service through a one-time rental fee of Rs. 1,499 (valid till 30 days). The fee will be charged in the customer’s bill, and there will no cap on the usages. The service is however only available for post-paid customers. The discount offer is valid for 40 countries, including Australia, France, Italy, Singapore, Switzerland, the U.K. and U.S., on specific partner networks across the globe.

To activate, Vodafone users need to SMS ACT VROAM to 111 (toll free from home network). In case users plan to reactive the pack post expiry, they will need to send the SMS again.

“This latest offering addresses the latent needs of customers travelling to multiple countries with a single pack on one number and one-time rental, thus making international roaming a worry-free experience,” Vodafone India Chief Commercial Officer Sanjoy Mukerji said.

With the revision in its ISD plans, Vodafone has evidently taken on Matrix Cellular, which offers international SIM and data cards, and dominates the international roaming market in the country. The operator’s move is likely to prompt other telcos to cut their ISD plans as well.
