Vivo has finally launched its first foldable smartphone in India, the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro. Previously, Vivo’s foldable phones were only available in China, where the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro has been available since April. For now, this foldable smartphone will directly compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 in the Indian market. It has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, a brilliant build, and Zeiss optics.
In this article, I am going to compare the all-new Vivo X Fold 3 Pro with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. Let’s go!
Vivo X Fold 3 Pro is more handy when it comes to design
The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro features a pretty lightweight and slim design. Interestingly, it features a Carbon Fibre hinge to reduce the weight. If we talk about its measurement, it is only 236 grams heavy and 5.2mm thin. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 measures 6.1mm in thickness and weighs 253 grams.
On the back of the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro, there is a big circle camera module that houses a triple camera setup and Zeiss branding. It comes in only one colour option and that is Celestial Black. Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is available in five colors: Icy Blue, Phantom Black, Cream, Gray, and Blue. On the back are three vertically arranged camera rings in a compact cylindrical camera module. It has one advantage over the X Fold 3 Pro, which is the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 back panel.

Display also goes to Vivo X Fold 3 Pro
The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro is equipped with a 6.53-inch cover AMOLED display with 1172 x 2748 pixels resolution. And when you unfold it, there is an 8.03-inch LTPO AMOLED display with 2200 x 2480 pixels resolution. Both displays support 120hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and have 4500 nits of peak brightness.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 features a small 6.2-inch LTPO AMOLED cover display with 904 x 2316 pixels. The cover display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Vuctus 2. Speaking of the main display, it has a 7.6-inch LTPO AMOLED display with 1812 x 2176 pixels resolution and HDR10+ support. Both display comes with up to 120Hz refresh rate.
Apart from that, the display also represents colours more accurately as compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5. “In our tests, the Vivo not only showcased better brightness, but it also surpassed the Samsung display in terms of colour accuracy,” our smartphone expert said.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 vs Vivo X Fold 3 Pro: Performance
The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Whereas, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 runs on last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy SoC. The true competitor to the X Fold 3 Pro would be the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, Samsung is expected to launch its next-gen foldable in the second half of 2024.
Moreover, you get the X Fold 3 Pro in only one storage option, which is 512GB storage and 16GB RAM. But, with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, there are three storage options; 12GB 256GB, 12GB 512GB, and 12GB 1TB.
The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro runs on the latest FuntouchOS 14 based on Android 14. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 runs on Android 13-based OneUI 5.1, but can be upgraded to Android 14-based OneUI 6.1.
Vivo-Zeiss magic enhances foldables’ camera game
The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro boasts a Zeiss triple camera setup, holding a 50-megapixel main camera with PDAF and OIS support, a 64-megapixel Periscope Telephoto sensor with up to 10x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens with PDAF. For selfies and video calls, there are two 32-megapixel selfie shooters on both displays.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 also features a triple camera setup, including a 50-megapixel main camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens. For selfies, it has a 10-megapixel camera on the cover display and a 4-megapixel sensor on the foldable display.
A big battery in Vivo and not-so-big in Samsung
There is a 5700mAh battery that powers the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro. It also supports up to 100-watt fast charging and 50-watt wireless charging. Coming to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, it has a 4400mAh battery that supports only 25-watt fast charging and 15-watt wireless charging.
What is the price difference?
Here comes the most interesting part. Vivo has launched the X Fold 3 Pro at a price of ₹1,59,999. Whereas, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes at a starting price of ₹1,54,999. The Vivo sale is going live in India on June 13.
Verdict
Well, I believe I don’t have to mention my verdict here as the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro surpasses the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 in most of the parameters. But, as I mentioned above, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is not the true competitor of Vivo’s foldable. So, just stay tuned and to read our Vivo X Fold 3 Pro review, click here.
