Vivo launched the Vivo V50 yesterday which directly succeeds the Vivo V40 which was launched back in July 2024. The smartphone comes with Zeiss tuning and some new colours. But is it worth the upgrade? In this comparison I am going to compare the specs of both the Vivo V50 and the Vivo V40 to help you decide which one’s a better choice for you and if it’s even worth the upgrade or not.

Both the phones look identical with a keyhole design for the camera module. You get a quad-curved design this time on the Vivo V50, compared to the curved display on the Vivo V40. The Vivo V50 also upgrades to an IP69 rating, while the Vivo V40 has an IP68 rating. Now, let’s see how much of a difference is there when it comes to their hardware.

Vivo V50 vs Vivo 40

Last year’s Vivo V40 sported a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with HDR10+ support and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The Vivo V50 this year has a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with HDR10+ and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The major change is the quad display from the previous side-curved one.

On the performance front, both the Vivo V50 and the Vivo V40 run on the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset. The Vivo V50 offers 12GB RAM and 128GB storage, with expandable options. The Vivo V40 has 8GB RAM in the base variant.

The Vivo V50 ships with Android 15-based Funtouch OS 15, while the V40 launched with Android 14-based Funtouch OS 14. However, the latter can also be upgraded to Funtouch OS 15.

Cameras are the main highlight of both of these smartphones. Both come with Zeiss tuning. Both of them have a dual camera setup with a 50-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens. On the front, both have a 50-megapixel selfie shooter.

The Vivo V50 was launched with a 6,000mAh battery along with 90W charging support. The Vivo V40, on the other hand, has a slightly smaller 5,500mAh battery with 80W charging support.

Price comparison

Pricing remains similar, with the base model of both phones priced at Rs 34,999. However, the V50’s top-end variant is slightly cheaper at Rs 40,999, compared to Rs 41,999 for the Vivo V40.
