Video of Oppo’s bezel-less phone show up
Video and images of the Oppo 'bezel-less' smartphone posted online.
Oppo had filed a patent of a bezel-less phone last year in December, now images and video of the smartphone have been posted online.
The two images show a new Oppo smartphone with a 5.5 inch edge-to-edge screen like the Sharp Aquos Crystal. The smartphone features ultra-thin bezels only on its lateral sides, with large “bezels” at the top and bottom. The patent filing describes Oppo using special tech to diffract light at the very end of the display's physical body in order to create the illusion that no/little bezel is present.
From the images it looks like the phone has a metallic frame and a thin profile, so it is expected to be a high-end offering from Oppo. Oppo had launched the Oppo Find 7 a little over a year ago, so this new device could be its successor.
Oppo is not the only one working on this unique design, recently images of a new LeTV smartphone with near zero bezels had been spotted online. Apart from Oppo and LeTV, other tech giants are also working on thin bezel less displays. Samsung recently launched the Galaxy S6 Edge with a thin bezel display, LG has shown a display panel with a 0.7mm bezel,
and soon an edge free smartphone from ZTE called the Nubia Z9 is also expected to be launched.
Last month, Oppo had launched the Oppo R5 Gilded Limited Edition smartphone in India for Rs 29,990. The smartphone has an ultra-thin stainless steel frame and a golden frame. Only 10000 units of the smartphone were made available globally and only through pre-booking. It has a 5.2-inch AMOLED full HD display and runs Android 4.4 with Color OS 2.0 on top. It has a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The Oppo R5 is backed by a 2000 mAh battery and comes with the company's VOOC charging technology which claims to get 75% charge in just 30 minutes.
