Reliance Industries is hosting its 46th AGM

The company is expected to make major announcements about its 5G services and hardware too

A special collaboration with Netflix is also expected to be announced at the event

After acing the launch of 4G internet in India, Reliance’s telecom division, Jio, has become synonymous with internet connectivity in a lot of regions in India. The brand has been growing leaps and bounds and has now come to become not only a network provider but also a brand that sells accessible hardware in India. With Reliance Industries set to host their 46th Annual General Meet (AGM) later today, everyone has their eyes set on the event as we could see some interesting announcements coming from the Jio side of things.

Reliance Jio started its operations in India around the dawn of 4G network services in India. At the time, thanks to their strategy of providing free SIM Cards to consumers, the brand outgrew some of the oldest players in the market. Since then, the brand has never looked back, and with the launch of devices like the JioPhone and the JioBook, which was in the news last month, Jio has managed to diversify its presence in the Indian tech ecosystem.

As we near the 46th Annual General Meet (AGM) of Reliance Industries, news about the launch and announcement of several new announcements has been doing rounds on the internet. So, let’s have a look at what we can expect from the floor at the 46th Annual General Meet (AGM) of Reliance Industries –

Taking entertainment a step ahead

A lot of telecom companies are known to bundle their subscriptions with that of OTT services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, and the like. During the meeting, if the talks on the internet are anything to go by, Jio could announce a special collaboration with Netflix and release a special set of subscriptions for the users of their recently released JioBharat Phone and their JioBook Laptop.

5G – The hardware and expansion saga

5G has taken the world of telecommunications in India by storm, with brands, including Jio, scrambling to improve their coverage in the country. With Jio expanding its coverage in the country by the day, it is safe to assume that there will be some announcements related to the network standard at the event today. Not only that, Jio is also expected to unveil its first 5G router and its cheapest 5G phone during the event on Monday. There is not much to talk about in terms of the specifications of the phone as yet. However, if the trends of Reliance’s Jio-branded devices are anything to go by, then we can safely assume that the phone will not have the best specifications in the market, but thanks to its close association with one of the biggest telecom providers in India, could help increase the penetration of 5G in India.

What is in it for you?

With increased competition in both the network provider and hardware space, it will be interesting to see how competing brands take on Jio with their upcoming launches. Maybe we could see some more inter-brand collaborations, like the US coming to India with contractual phone connections and the like. One thing that these guarantee is the improved quality of service and cheaper costs for the end user, as brands will make sure to up their game and offer better plans and pricing for their portfolio
