September is just around the corner and along with the iPhone 16 series, we are also excitedly waiting for the iOS 18 versions. But ahead of that, following its timeline, Apple has also rolled out iOS 17.6.1 for iPhone users and iPadOS 17.6.1 for iPad users. With these new updates, Apple is focussing on fixing a crucial bug that is related to Advanced Data Protection.

As per Apple’s release notes, iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1 include “important bug fixes and address an issue that prevents enabling or disabling Advanced Data Protection.” This optional feature further expands end-to-end encryption to various iCloud services, such as device backups, Message backups, and Photos.

How can Apple users lose their data?

There was a bug in iOS 17.6 that affected some users who were trying to manage Advanced Data Protection. They tried to enable the feature and encountered an error and received a clear message indicating the failure. However, users attempting to disable the feature were shown that it had been turned off, even though it remained active on iCloud.

To deal with this, once users install iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1, they will be asked to verify their settings to ensure their preferences are correctly applied.

With this new update, users get a new “Catch Up” feature in the TV app, which uses machine learning to generate highlight clips for MLS matches.

It is important that you make sure to update your iPhone. To update your iPhone to iOS 17.6.1, go to the Settings app, select General, then choose Software Update. The build number for today’s update is 21G93.

If you use older iPhones, Apple has also released iOS 16.7.10, which includes bug fixes and other improvements under build number 20H350. There’s also a macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, which ensures that Mac users also benefit from these critical bug fixes and improvements.
