Time for triple foldable smartphone: Samsung to take on Huawei with this new tech
HIGHLIGHTS

Huawei could launch the first triple foldable smartphone by the end of 2023.

Samsung has also entered the picture as Huawei's competitor.

These smartphones could feature sensors on hinges that would sense screens' state.

Last year, a lot of rumours surfaced on the internet about a triple foldable smartphone. Huawei is the brand that was expected to roll out the first triple-foldable smartphone. The last reliable leak came from the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), claiming that Huawei will launch the first triple foldable smartphone by the end of 2023. However, the launch was said to be shifted to the second quarter of 2024 because of the development issue. Surprisingly, Samsung has also entered the race as Huawei’s competitor. The triple foldable smartphone is expected this year by both brands. Let’s see what all do we know about it.

First of all, the idea is really wild. Imagine folding your smartphone like a poster; one fold, two fold, three fold, where will this stop? Anyway, it’s a developing tech and we have to accept it. Speaking of these triple foldable smartphones, they are expected to feature a Flex S hinge. Now what is this? Samsung introduced this as a type of hinge that can be folded twice. This means the foldable devices can be folded how our favourite cartoons used to fold paper maps. If they use Flex S in clamshell foldable smartphones, it could make their sizes even more compact.

As I mentioned earlier, Huawei could launch this new foldable smartphone in the second quarter of 2024, which starts with April. A reliable tipster on X (formerly Twitter), Revegnus posted that Samsung will also launch the tri-foldable smartphone. He also added that Samsung won’t let Huawei launch the world’s first triple-foldable smartphone, as Samsung is obsessed with getting the first movers advantage in foldables.

Now if you are thinking about how this tech is going to work, I have a small detail. In a report by Tom’s Guide, it was shared that these smartphones could feature sensors on hinges. This will help smartphones sense the state of screens, meaning you will only see content on display that is in active use.
