Appular, developers of the first HTML5 based game for the iPhone, have just released a demo. The game will be titled the Hand of Greed, and will be able to run on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, offering Apple handheld users a game that emphasizes intense fighting and thieving action with simple to use touch controls and spectacular graphics and lighting effects.
Appular Founder, Brian Akaka, waxed lyrical about the cross-Apple platform benefits of HTML5, and said: “HTML5 offers the perfect tools for the job. It runs efficiently with optimal frame rates and effects that wouldn’t be possible on Flash – even on the most powerful Android device. So, that is why we have embraced HTML5 as the future of app discovery and promotion.”
Talking about how his company was also looking to integrate AdMob’s web app and Medialets within their ads, Akaka added that the “rich media ads” that are now possible will allow consumers to “try out games without having to install a new app. [We] foresee huge potential for HTML5 to revolutionize the app discovery ecosystem outside of iTunes. Consumers are able to quickly try more apps and experience sophisticated interactivity just using Safari or within their other apps. Developers can utilize HTML5 to offer a dynamic way to increase visibility for their apps and showcase their content.”
