The Internet has its new whipping boy and this time it’s the newly launched Apple iPhone 6 Plus. After reports came in that the Apple phablet was reportedly bending inside the front pockets of users’ pants, what seems like 80% of the Internet has set its sights on the iPhone 6 Plus. And the newest thing seems to be putting other smartphones through the same bend test to see if they too suffer from the same fault, as some voices on the Internet claim.
Unbox Therapy, a YouTube channel, ran a test on competing smartphones such as the HTC One M8, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Motorola Moto X, and also on other iPhones such as the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6. In the test, all of the smartphones from competing brands handled pressure better than the iPhone 6 Plus while the iPhone 6 did bend a little. Surprisingly, the iPhone 5S also emerged unscathed.
However, it’s not just Unbox Therapy that decided to take a run at the bends. Another YouTube user, tried the test on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and found that not only does the Samsung phone bend, but its screen also cracks.
Despite the video above, Samsung has also taken a dig at the iPhone 6 Plus in an ad:
Cult of Mac has also collected photographs of users who’ve all owned different phones that have reportedly bent during use, including the Sony Xperia Z1 and the Nokia Lumia 925.
The Nokia Lumia 925
The Sony Xperia Z1
After all of the above, it appears that even though the Internet has obviously magnified the actual issue to a hyperbolic level, there is definitely an issue with the iPhone 6 Plus’ build that causes it bend on the application of, slightly above than normal, pressure.
