Tablet news roundup: RIM’s BlackPad, Notion Ink’s Adam, and Samsung’s Galaxy Tablet

BlackBerry Tablet or BlackPad to launch in November?

A recent report by Bloomberg revealed that the BlackBerry tablet, or what might be called the BlackPad, will launch as early as November this year. Other details from the report included some specifications, such as a 9.7-inch screen, Bluetooth & WiFi connectivity, and apparently, mandatory phone tethering. So far though, there’s been no official word whatsoever from RIM, even if they are building a tablet at all.

Notion Ink Adam to come with FroYo onboard

While the Notion Ink Adam tablet has been plagued with issues, including Nvidia Tegra power problems, Notion Ink’s CEO, Rohan Shravan has revealed that when the device finally ships (last we heard, that would be in November), it will probably ship with Android 2.2 onboard. This is certainly exciting news, and the correct move on Notion Ink’s part, for releasing a much-awaited device with an outdated OS that can’t compare with the latest iOS 4 upgrades would have been unwise. The 10-inch tablet is also being considered as a candidate for Android 3.0, or Gingerbread, though Shravan said they’re still going through the hardware requirements with Google at this point. Expect it to release with FroYo, and be upgraded to Gingerbread when it releases, by early next year.

Samsung Galaxy Tab to release on August 11th?

While news of Samsung’s Galaxy tablet has been circulating for nearly two months, speculation has it that Samsung’s recently revealed special event that’s scheduled for August 11th, might just be the day the Korean company launches it. Earlier reports of a Q3 launch will certainly be validated if this turns out to be true. Guess we don’t have too long to wait before the beans are spilled.
