Swipe has launched its new smartphone, the Swipe ELITE for Rs. 5,999. The smartphone runs on Swipe’s own operating system called ‘Freedom OS’ that's based on Android Lollipop. Swipe Telecom is using an online-only model to sell the device and as such, the phone will be available on Flipkart from August 19.
The smartphone is packed with good specs. It comes 5-inch HD display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 13MP/8MP cameras, and a 2500mAh battery. It also has a microSD card expansion slot that can be used to increase the storage space up to 32GB. In addition to this, they are offering a service called Swipe Box, which offers 100GB of cloud storage by aggregating all of user’s cloud storage accounts into one.
The new Freedom OS developed by Swipe, allows users to customise the user interface of the device in multiple ways. For example, the number of apps present in the bottom dock can be changed, the size of the icons adjusted, and app drawer can be customized as well. The ELITE also supports the gestures which you can set for performing specific tasks. Another feature of the device is Asist X. This feature lets user call, chat, and locate a service center from phone.
As for the online-only model, Swipe’s founder and CEO Shripal Gandhi said, “It’s only because of the online model that we can keep the price of the smartphone low. Given the specs and the UI features offered with the ELITE this will be a disruptive budget smartphone in India’s mobile space.”
Swipe ELITE is competing with a lot of smartphones in its price range which will surely make it tough for it to get attention. Some of the smartphone it wil compete against are Redmi 2 Prime, InFocus M350, and Karbonn Titanium Mach Five.
