We were expecting Google to announces the next big thing in Android at the annual Google I/O event but what we got was a Samsung Galaxy S4 running stock Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is directly competing with the HTC One and after the announcement at I/O, speculations were high about a vanilla Android experience on a HTC One. Google has confirmed the same, saying the smartphone will initially be available in the US only.
At the D11 conference Android and Chrome OS chief Sundar Pichai announced that a vanilla Android running HTC One will be available starting June 26 for $599. The Samsung Galaxy S4 running stock Android will be available on the Google Play store for $649 and will be available starting June 26.
On its official website, HTC has listed that three versions of the HTC One will be available to users – SIM Unlocked, Developer Edition and Nexus experience.
“We’re excited to offer HTC fans and admirers alike a new experience on what we think is the best hardware available today,” HTC noted in a blog post.
The HTC One is HTC’s flagship smartphone that shows off a full HD 1920×1080 pixel resolution 4.7-inch display. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2 GB of RAM and an Adreno 320 GPU. The One doesn’t support microSD cards but does offer 32GB of built-in storage. It also comes with Sense UI version 5 with BlinkFeed.
