Spice Retail is the latest smartphone company to take the online route to sell its products. The company has tied up with e-commerce site Flipkart to sell some of its flagship Spice handsets. Some of the handsets will be available on Flipkart, starting mid-September. Spice hopes to sell around 100,000 units in the initial few days.
"Spice Retail Limited has joined hands with Flipkart wherein select flagship smartphones from Spice will be made exclusively available on the e-commerce major's portal," Spice Retail said in a statement.
Spice hopes to grab 10% of share of overall online sales for smartphones. "Flipkart has established itself as the leading e-commerce platform in the Indian market and enjoys major share of Mobile Category sales amongst all e-commerce portals and treats Spice as an invaluable global player & partner… Both, Spice and Flipkart, through this association hope to give the customers a varied choice of products with best in class experience and after sales service,” further states the statement.
Of late a lot of smartphone companies have gone online-exclusive to sell the products. The online-exclusive model has turned out to be a success, especially after Motorola generated a lot of buzz around the Moto smartphones.
Even as the small brands are experimenting with online-exclusive model, Samsung has also joined the bandwagon and entered into an exclusive tie up with Flipkart for its S5 mini. Micromax's latest Canvas Nitro is also available exclusively via Snapdeal.
