A recent video illustrating the reported Sony Xperia Z5 was leaked, almost confirming Sony to unveil its new Xperia Z lineup of smartphones at IFA 2015. The Japanese company has already released a September 2 event teaser. Following up on previous rumours, the leaked video showcased the alleged Sony Xperia Z5 in a hands-on video.
Posted by French technology website Clubic, Sony Mobile Communications’ Director of Marketing, Oliver Terme, is seen showcasing a new handset to a French journalist from the website. If the video is not counterfeit, the Sony Xperia Z5 seems to feature an all-familiar Sony design. The side-mounted power button doubles up as a fingerprint sensor, and a new 23MP rear camera is also seen.

Speculations suggest that Sony is preparing to launch three new variants of the Xperia Z5 lineup. The lineup is suggested to feature three smartphones — Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium. While the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact will be an upgrade over existing phones, the Xperia Z5 Premium is expected to be an all-new phone.
All three phones might be dust- and water-resistant, and pack similar spec sheets, with the display being the major variation. They are expected to run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810, or the upcoming 820 SoC. A new 23MP rear camera with hybrid autofocus and Optical Image Stabilization is also expected.
The Xperia Z5 is expected to sport a 1080p resolution, 5.2-inch display panel, while the Z5 Compact may come with a 720p resolution on a 4.6-inch display panel. The Xperia Z5 Premium is expected to feature a 5.5-inch, 4K resolution display. If this materialises, Sony might be the first smartphone company to bring in 4K display on smartphones, that too on a 5.5-inch one, and not larger panels.
Other specs like RAM, storage and battery power remain unspecified. The September 2nd event will confirm all of the rumours and speculations.
