Sony has adopted the twice a year refresh strategy for its flagship smartphone, and while the Xperia Z2 was announced earlier this year, its next iteration has already leaked online. The Xperia Z3 was spotted along with its mini or, shall we say, its compact version in a couple of images. The handset should arrive by September which could mean an announcement around IFA 2014.
The pictures confirm that both handsets will look very similar and will have slimmer bezels than their predecessors. There are also redesigned stereo speakers housed on the top and bottom of the display. Sadly there isn’t a huge change in the overall design of the smartphone.
Surprisingly Sony didn’t launch a compact version of the Z2, and there is a possibility that the next compact device could be the Z3 compact and that there might never be a smaller version of the Z2.
According to another source, the specs of the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will include a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with a 4.5-inch 720p HD display, 20.7-megapixel camera, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera and it will run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. This means that even the Z3 will be arriving with these or a slightly better set of specifications.
It's still quite early to comment on the details, but we will be keeping an eye out for the two devices.
