Sony launched the Xperia Z Ultra phablet in India for Rs. 46,990 today at an event held in New Delhi. The Xperia phablet wields a 6.4-inch display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and 344 ppi pixel density. Sony further revealed that the large screened smartphone will be hitting store shelves in India from August 2 and will be available in multiple colours including Black, White and Purple.
In spite of its large size, the Xperia Z Ultra is relatively slim at 6.5 mm and weighs about 212 grams. Like the preceding Xperia Z smartphone, the Xperia Z Ultra is IP57 certified to be dust and water proof and also water resistant up to a depth of 1 metre and up to 30 minutes. The Xperia also boasts of Triluminos display technology which Sony claims results in colours looking rich and natural. The Xperia Z Ultra supports microSD cards up to 64GB and comes with internal storage of 16GB. The phablet is powered by 2GB of RAM, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz and an Adreno 330 GPU. It supports all popular connectivity features including 3G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, DLNA and Bluetooth 4.0.
Imaging on the Xperia Z Ultra is taken care of by an 8MP Exmor RS camera that can also shoot 1080p videos at 30fps. The Xperia also has a front-facing 2MP camera for video chats. Finally, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) and a Lithium Ion battery rated at 3050 mAh with the ability to provide 16 hours of continuous talktime on 3G.
Indian buyers of the Xperia Z Ultra will get free access to the BigFlix movie streaming app for a month and the full version of Asphalt 7 racing game.
