If reports on the Internet are to be believed, then Sony’s recently launched flagship smartphone; the Xperia Z, is expected to receive the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update in March 2013.
A screenshot of the smartphone running the new OS was sent to the Xperia Blog. The blog says that the Jelly Bean update on the smartphone is still in beta and that the final version will be rolled out towards the end of the month in Europe. There is no information on when the update will be received in other parts of the world.
The Xperia Z is Sony’s latest flagship smartphone. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad core processor clocked at 1.5GHz along with 2GB of RAM. The display on the smartphone is a 5-inch Reality Display LCD with a 1920×1080 pixel resolution. It also houses the Adreno 320 GPU. The Xperia Z has 16GB built-in storage expandable via a microSD card slot. The rear of the smartphone houses a 13MP camera. It runs on a 2330mAh battery.
One of the biggest disadvantages of not owning a Nexus device is that the Android updates aren’t rolled out to consumers the minute they are made available. It is up to the manufacturer to roll out the update to the consumers of devices. Up till now, the Samsung Galaxy S III has seen the Android 4.2.2 update and the HTC Butterfly ran the new OS straight out of the box. The HTC One runs on Android 4.2.1 from the word go.
Devices such as the LG Optimus G, HTC One X and more are yet to receive the Android 4.2.2 update. Google’s flagship Nexus devices are the only ones to get the latest Android update the minute it is released.
