Sony Mobile India is expected to launch its flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z in India on March 6. The news about the launch of the device comes from the official India Facebook page of the Japanese electronics giant.
The company updated its Facebook cover photo which reads, “Everything is about to change” with the date 06/03/13 below it. In the background, you can see a smartphones that looks a lot like the Xperia Z.
The information that the Xperia Z would launch in India in March has been circulating the Internet for the past one month.
The Xperia Z has a 5-inch display with a 1920×1080 pixel resolution. It isn’t the first 1080p HD smartphone to hit the Indian shores. We have seen the launch of the HTC Butterfly in India last month. Powered by the quad-core 1.5GHz Krait CPU and Adreno 320 GPU (Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064 SoC), the Xperia Z also boasts of 2GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of built-in storage, expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card. It also supports NFC as well as Bluetooth 4.0. The rear of the smartphone houses a 13MP 1080p HD camera with an LED flash and the front has a 2.2MP 720p HD camera for video calling. The smartphone will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgradable to Android 4.2. The battery on the device is 2330mAh, rated to deliver up to 550 hours of standby time (2G), 11 hours of talktime (2G), and 40 hours of continuous music playback.
With the HTC Butterfly priced in India at Rs. 45,990, we expect the Xperia Z to be priced around the same Rs. 40k price point.
