Sony Xperia XZ1 is the first smartphone to launch with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The smartphone looks similar to its predecessor but brings new features like the 3D creator.

Sony Xperia XZ1, the successor to last year's Xperia XZ has been officially launched in India. The smartphone was announced at IFA 2017 in Berlin early this month and is priced at Rs 44,990. The smartphone will go on sale starting this evening from Sony's authorised retail stores.

The Xperia XZ1 looks like its predecessor but brings the latest Qualcomm chipset and a new camera feature called 3D creator. The smartphone features the new 19MP Motion Eye camera that first debuted on the Xperia XZ Premium at MWC early this year. The 19MP primary camera has f/2.0 aperture, supports predictive phase detection and laser autofocus, electronic image stabilisation and LED flash. The camera also supports recording super-slow motion videos at 960 frames per second.

Interestingly, Sony is launching a new feature called 3D Creator that allows Xperia XZ1 users to create 3D scans and directly print them using a 3D printer. The software feature has four scanning modes – face, head, freeform and food and does not need a scanner and wireless connection. The 3D avatar created using Xperia XZ1 can also be shared on social media. Sony is also including a 13MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording support.

The Xperia XZ1 gets a 5.2-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, HDR support and Corning's Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Powering the device is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 mobile platform coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The Xperia XZ1 offers a side-mounted fingerprint and is IP68 water and dust resistant.

The Xperia XZ1 is also the first smartphone to launch with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The handset houses a 2700mAh battery along with support for Quick Charge 3.0 and improved Stamina mode. The Xperia XZ1 will be available only in a black colour option.
