The two Sony phones that had leaked earlier, the Xperia SP and Xperia L have gotten their official unveil from Sony today.
Just a few days ago, we had reported the Sony Xperia L and Xperia SP leaking through online retailers. Following that, Sony has today officially announced the two phones, along with clueing us in on the official specifications of the two devices.
The Xperia SP will feature a 4.6-inch 720p display powered by the Bravia 2 engine. The phone will run on a Snapdragon Krait CPU clocked at 1.7GHz while an Adreno 320 GPU will take up the graphic duties. There is no mention of just how much RAM this phone will carry, but it would be safe to say that there’s at least a whole gigabyte under the hood here. An 8MP camera capable of shooting full HD video adorns the back of the Xperia SP while the front is graced by a standard VGA shooter.
Sony Xperia SP
The Xperia L is a slightly smaller version of the Xperia SP, featuring a 4.3-inch screen with an 854×480 pixel resolution. It also has a slightly slower 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8230 Snapdragon processor with no word on the RAM. Even the GPU gets a downgrade when compared to the Xperia SP (Adreno 305 vs. Adreno 320). While Sony may have given the Xperia L slightly less power under the hood, it hasn’t skimped out on the imaging part as the L features an 8MP camera with an Exmor RS sensor that is essentially a BSI sensor.
Sony Xperia L
Both the phones come with built-in NFC for content sharing along with being capable of whatever the standard may be used for in the future. Both phones will also run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean right out of the box. Currently, there is no word on the pricing or availability, but we’d expect the units to start shipping soon as online retailers have already put the devices up for pre-order, with release dates sometime in March.
