Sony has confirmed that its newly launched Xperia S smartphone is experiencing a display issue, where a yellow tint appears on the screen after the temperature of the phone gets too high.
Owning up the glitch, Sony said in a statement that “the display on a limited number of Xperia S smart phones may show a slight yellow tint if exposed to temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.” Sony, however, stresses that a very few devices are affected and promises to replace the affected devices free of charge. Sony also said that it had identified the manufacturing flaw that caused the glitch.
Sony is slated to launch its Xperia S in India later this month. The device, introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, features Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, 4.3 inch display, dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 12.1 MP camera. There’s no word on pricing but reports suggest it will be around Rs. 30,000, taking on the likes of Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC One X.
It’s not first time a manufacturer has to grapple with glitches with its newly launched device. Nokia is also facing similar problems with its Lumia 800 smartphone. Nokia has released various updates including the PR v1.2 to increase the battery life of the device. The PR v1.2 update came after Nokia released an upgrade to the Lumia 800 that tripled the battery life of the device.
