We already knew what Sony smartphones would be receiving the Android Nougat update, and now we know when. Sony Slovakia, in a press conference, let slip the roadmap for updates. According to this slide, the Sony Xperia X Performance and XZ will be the first to get the update, in October this year. The Xperia X and X Compact, will get the Nougat builds in November, while the Xperia Z5 series, the Xperia Z3+ and the Xperia Z4 tablet will get the update in December. The Sony Xperia XA and XA Ultra will be the last to get the update, in “early 2017”.
It seems most of the new Sony devices to receive the update haven’t been launched in India yet. The company announced Sony Xperia X and XA were launched in India a while back. Also, Sony is planning to launch new devices in India soon, although we don’t yet know which ones they are. The company announced the Xperia X Compact and Xperia XZ in IFA 2016, in Berlin recently, and we expect the same in India soon.
Sony has had a steady track record when it comes to Android updates. It makes the camera sensors for most smartphones today, which gives it a presence in the smartphone market, even though its own devices don’t sell all that well.
