Sony says Xperia Z to get Android 4.2 Jelly Bean ‘shortly after launch’
Following the custom of being up-front about their Android smartphone OS upgrades, Sony has confirmed that the Xperia Z unveiled at CES 2013 will be launched in February with Jelly Bean onboard, and get the latest update soon after.
Sony Xperia Z will be the first mobile from the company to launch with Android Jelly Bean, specifically, v4.1.2. Sony has confirmed that the Xperia Z will get the Android 4.2 update “shortly after launch”. Incidentally, the device, which was first unveiled at CES 2013, will start rolling out in markets globally in February 2013.
Interestingly, the jump from Android 4.1 to Android 4.2 is all about user interface tweaks, but since Sony will skin the update anyway, even less than that will be visible to the users.
Sony Xperia Z is the first quad-core smartphone (1.5GHz Krait with Adreno 320GPU) from Sony, after sticking with the dual core processor idea for a long time for its flagship phones. The Xperia Z also has a 5-inch display with a full HD (1920×1080 pixel) resolution, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP Exmor RS camera with HDR video recording, and 16GB onboard storage with microSD expansion up to 32GB.
We still do not know when the Xperia Z will be launched in India, or the price point of the latest flagship device. But it should not be much further than the middle of March 2013 before the device arrives in India. We will keep you posted when we receive a confirmation.
