Sony’s next flagship phablet that is expected to launch in 2013 is rumoured to have a 6-inch full HD display. The 6-inch device is in addition to the already expected 5-inch phones that will make an appearance next year.
The rumour originates from IT168, a Chinese forum where a user leaked specs on three upcoming Sony smartphones, one of which is the Xperia 6, where presumably the 6 stands for the display size. Other specifications include, a 13MP rear camera (no mention of a front-facing camera), a whopping 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage space with a microSD card for expansion and a 3500mAh battery. The large battery is definitely a welcome considering the device’s size and power. The Xperia S is also said to support 4G LTE.
Another device the leak details is a 5-inch smartphone with a 16MP camera, 3GB of RAM, and a 3,000mAh battery. Finally, the last phone leaked has a 4-inch display with a 720p HD resolution, 1.5GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel camera, 16GB of built-in storage with a microSD card expansion slot, and an 1800mAh battery.
We have two major technology events just around the corner – CES 2013 in January and MWC 2013 in February. Both the events are year-openers for tech and products we can expect to see hit store shelves in the coming 12 months. We do hope these devices make an appearance there.
If the rumoured 6-inch device is true, then the line between a large screen smartphone and a small screen tablet will blur a lot more.
