Sony finally rolls out Jelly Bean update for Xperia S
HIGHLIGHTS

Early 2012 flagship gets the much awaited OS update, which could be the last for this phone.

After a long wait, that included a couple of delays, Sony Mobile has started rolling out the Android Jelly Bean update for the Xperia S. This was announced by Sony Mobile France’s Twitter account. We had reported in April that the Jelly Bean update for the Xperia S would be rolling out in May. Sony’s Twitter account tweeted the information that Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 is now being pushed to certain builds of the device.

Interesting to note then, that Sony’s official website is still mentioning the 6.1.A.2.55, which is the Android 4.0 version. As with most updates, the rollout happens in batches, with certain baseband versions and phones in certain regions getting the update first.

Sony Xperia S was launched in February 2012, and was running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread at that time. Later in the year, the phone got the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update, and later on it was confirmed that the smartphone is eligible for the Jelly Bean upgrade as well. However, the exact schedule for the update was always in doubt.
