Even after producing some of the best smartphones, Sony's mobile division is said to be in trouble as Reuters has reported that the Japanese giant is planning to cut 1000 jobs from its smartphone division. The report also says that these cuts will mainly be seen in Europe and China.
While there is no confirmation, the official announcement is expected to arrive on the 2nd February when it will announce its financial report. This will be an addition to the previous reduction in employees which was announced by Sony last year and will take place by March 2016. This means that the whole smartphone business wil go down to a minor 30%.
There has also been news that Sony might just be going back to an yearly upgrade cycle for its flagship smartphone models rather than the current 6-month. Producing two brand new devices every year was a far-fetched idea and it meant crushing down its own devices. Clearly, Sony has not been doing well in the smartphone market, but the company does offer some really interesting smartphones all over the world.
Do you think Sony will face the same situations as BlackBerry or Nokia? Or does it have a chance to bounce back in the market?
