Sony Ericsson has gone ahead and introduced the Android Walkman Phone that’s been doing the rounds of the rumour mills since last year, and was teased at last week. Called the W8, it runs Android 2.1 and is absolutely identical to the Xperia X8 in every way, except for the available colours, and the Sony Ericsson MH410 stereo headset it comes bundled with, and a few other music features. It runs the same TImescape UI common to most of the Xperia series.
The Sony Ericsson W8 has a 3-inch 16M colour capacitive touchscreen with a 320×480 pixel resolution. Just like the X8, it has a 600 MHz ARM 11 processor along with an Adreno 200 GPU, part of the Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset, coupled with just 168MB of RAM.

It obviously comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack, and in addition, has a Walkman Player onboard. Built-in storage is 128MB, and it is expandable to up to 16GB with a microSD card. The W8 is three colours – Azure Blue, Metallic Red, and Iconic Orange.
The Sony Ericsson W8 should be available soon, and has been announced for India, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan. It should hit shelves sometime in the second quarter of 2011, and, should be priced at around the Xperia X8’s price.
