Snapdragon 820, 652 optimised for Project Tango, more smartphones to flaunt AR?
All future Snapdragon 800 and 600 series SoCs will also support Project Tango, states Qualcomm
Qualcomm announces recently that the Snapdragon 820 SoC will now be supporting Project Tango, joining the Snapdragon 652 SoC in compatibility with the AR-based project. It also announced that future SoCs from Snapdragon 600 and 800 series would also be ready for Project Tango.
Qualcomm stated on its blog, “As we’ve noted, the Snapdragon 652 offers many advanatges for Tango, including high accuracy, uniform time stamping of multiple sensor data streams, efficient processing without the need for external co-processors, and leading camera and sensor processing technology. Now, Snapdragon 820 offers the same advantages, as well as the added benefits of our premium Snapdragon 800 tier processors, including higher performance and even lower power consumption.”
It also showcased the Snapdragon 652, powering the world’s first Project Tango smartphone, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro. It will feature a 6.4-inch “intelligent Assertive display”, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage on the base model. Find more information about the Phab2 Pro here.
Qualcomm also said, “Snapdragon 600 and 800 series processors also include an integrated global high-frequency clock, which performs highly accurate, uniform time stamping of all that sensor data, which is critical for enabling smooth augmented reality experiences, where 3D graphic overlays track virtually seamlessly with physical surroundings.”
Earlier this year, Qualcomm announced hardware-backed Biometric authentication, and also added support for the Vulcan graphics API. With these enhancements, Qualcomm will look to open up support for Augmented Reality to be presented to multiple powerful smartphones in near future.
