The Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 was unveiled only a few weeks ago and it looks like the internet is abuzz with information about the upcoming Snapdragon 735 SoC. If the information circulating the internet is too believed, then the new Snapdragon 735 will be built on the 7nm process. This is just like the current Qualcomm heavyweight, the Snapdragon 855. The chipset is rumoured to feature an Octa-core CPU with a 1+1+6 core configuration. This is different from the Snapdragon 855 which sports a 2+2+4 configuration. For the sake of comparison, it should be noted that the Snapdragon 730 features a 2+6 core configuration. Speaking about the clock speeds of the Snapdragon 735, it is expected that we will see one 2.9GHz + one 2.4GHz and six 1.8GHz speeds.
Moving to the GPU, the chipset is expected to have an Adreno 620 GPU clocked at 750MHz. The SoC will also come with NPU220 clocked at up to 1GHz. This is for AI-related tasks.
The leaked information also says that the upcoming chipset will support 5G. How 5G will work and whether the infrastructure will be ready in time for the launch and availability of 5G capable phones remains to be seen. However, the Snapdragon 735 is expected to bring 5G technology down to mid-range devices. Although, It does remain to be seen how the addition of 5G affects the price of the chipset, thereby affecting the price of the smartphone it powers.
There is no information about the launch date or phones that the upcoming Snapdragon 735 chip will power.
