SMC Networks unveils the EZStylePad 100
The touch screen tablet market seems to be growing bigger by the minute. In an interesting interaction with Mr. Charles Chen, Vice President, Accton Asia Pacific we got our hands on the latest addition to this burgeoning product segment – The EZ Style Pad 100 – a seven inch Android 2.1 based tablet device. The device is pretty much what we’ve come to expect from Android based tablet devices, except for one major gripe – the resistive touch screen. However one of the interesting things about the device is that apart from being able to access files on a flash drive, it will support 3G Dongles via the USB port. We were told that plug n play support for many local 3G dongles (such as Reliance Netconnect / Tata Photon etc) is being worked on right now. The device is priced at $399 but Mr. Chen informed us that they’re trying to bring down the price to an affordable $299. Have a look at the quick hands-on video we were able to shoot by whisking away the device for some time.
Mr. Chen had a few other goodies up his sleeve which he shows off in the video towards the end. We were given a sneak peek of a portable 3G Wi-Fi router (with battery) that will allow multiple users to share the connection from a 3G dongle. He also mentioned that a higher version of this device is scheduled for imminent release. It’ll be worth watching out for this elder sibling, the soon to be launched EZStylePad200. It is slated to feature a capacitive screen and will have 802.11n Wi-Fi.
