Consumer electronics giant, Sharp Corporation, launched four mobile handsets across various form factors at Mumbai today. The phones that were launched include the full touchscreen Alice (SH0037D), a dual functional flip phone Tango 3G (SH7110C), a basic flip phone Blink (SH6017D) and the unique cyclo-twist phone, the Cyborg (SH9110C).
Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Sunil Sinha, Managing Director, Sharp Business Systems said, “Sharp’s new handsets are in sync with the company’s history of innovation and commitment towards bringing quality products to life. Sharp handsets symbolize our pioneering technological advancement and continued focus on R&D”.
Sharp entered the Indian market in 2000 starting off with copiers, multi-functional devices with LCD information displays and other consumer electronic items following them. Wasn’t Sharp taking a risk entering the handset market, which is already flooded in India, at such a time?
“Our handset sales in Japan and later China is quite high. Our basic strength is 3G and since it will be shortly introduced in India, we felt this was the right time to enter the Indian market. As 3G services start to roll out, Sharp handsets will become hugely relevant to the Indian market,” said Sinha.
Amongst all the phones launched, the Cyborg SH9110C grabbed everyone’s attention with its unique cyclo twist design. The Cyborg is a flip phone with the ability to rotate the screen part from a vertical to horizontal plane with a twist. “This kind of form factor makes sense when you want to watch a movie on your phone or in the future when TV programs can be watched on phones,” said Sinha. The Cyborg also sports the Sharp ASV LCD screen which promises to give a great visual experience.
Blink SH6017D was the only dual SIM phone with integrated social networking apps like Facebook and Twitter. Tango 3G SH7110C is a flip phone having a 180-degree rotating screen, which can also be used as a full touchscreen. Alice SH0037D is a full touchscreen phone with a 3MP autofocus camera and dual front speakers. All the phones come with Java operating system.
Prices for the phones which will be available in the Indian market after a week are as follows :
