Sharp Aquos R announced with 5.3-inch QHD display, AI assistant and Snapdragon 835 processor
Sharp Aquos R is the second smartphone to support Bluetooth 5.0 standard and it also comes with its own AI assistant
Sharp is back with a new smartphone carrying the Aquos branding. Sharp Aquos R is the company's newest offering to feature flagship specifications like Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, 4GB RAM and Quad HD display. Sharp Aquos R sports a 5.3-inch display with a Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The company has used an IGZO panel that supports HDR 10 standards and a faster refresh rate for more accurate colour reproduction. The Aquos R like Samsung's Galaxy S8, Sony Xperia XZ Premium and Xiaomi's Mi 6 uses the Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
Sharp is not joining the dual rear camera bandwagon with its Aquos R, but it does want to have its own AI assistant. Sharp's new AI assistant is being called EMOPA and it comes with context awareness, and will deliver useful information like news and weather. With Samsung launching its own Bixby Assistant and Google Assistant coming to more Android devices, 2017 could well become the year of AI assistants.
On the camera front, Sharp Aquos R has a 23MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture, optical stabilisation and electronic stabilisation only for videos. There is also a wide-angle 16MP selfie camera with 23mm focal length. Sharp Aquos R is the second smartphone to support Bluetooth 5.0 standard with almost four times the operating range. The Aquos R features a front-mounted fingerprint sensor, WiFi, NFC, USB-C port and is IP68 water and dust resistant. The device is backed by a 3160mAh battery and it supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Sharp is not sharing the price or availability details of the product just yet.
