Samsung is reportedly working on its bendable smartphone codenamed the Galaxy X, which could be launched under their Galaxy Note series next year. According to a report by the Dutch website MobielKopen, a support page for SM-G888N0 handset went up on Samsung’s website, which is Samsung’s rumoured smartphone with a bendable display.
The mobile phone’s support page doesn’t shed any light on the specifications of the device, but the Galaxy X smartphone has been reported of sporting the SM-G888 model number. According to the report, the device with SM-G888 model number has already received certifications from several regulators like the Bluetooth SIG, Wi-Fi Alliance, and South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency. The "N0" on the device’s model number suggests that it could be launched in South Korea before being launched in other markets.
The design of the rumoured Galaxy X was previously leaked in the form of a patent filing. It hinted at a device sporting a clamshell design with a hinge which is used to fold the screen of the device inwards without it developing creases or breaking. Details of the smartphone’s User Interface recently appeared in the form of another patent application. However, the new patent filing hints that it could be a smartphone with a foldable display and work like a dual-screen handset, with each display running its own independent application.
Apart from Samsung, Apple is also reportedly working on foldable displays for its future iPhones. Its rumoured that Apple has partnered with LG for manufacturing the foldable displays and the company is switching from Samsung, its current display manufacturer, to LG due over fear of technology leaks.
