Samsung ‘worried’ about falling behind in the build quality war?
HIGHLIGHTS

Reports suggest that winds of change may be blowing at the Seoul headquarters, and the company might embrace metal for its next major offering.

It seems that the universal applause for the HTC One, at least for the build quality bit, has made Samsung sit up and take notice. It seems that even complicated sounding plastic materials won’t really cut it anymore with the customers, because well, it is still just plastic. While we would believe it when we see it, Sam Mobile reports that sources within the company indicate that Samsung is “worried” that the HTC One has raised the build quality stakes. The same sources also suggest that Samsung could dress up the Galaxy Note III in complete metal, set for release later this year.

“According to SamMobile’s famous insider, Samsung is planning to switch build quality for the next flagship device. He pointed out that the Galaxy Note III will not use the design guidelines of the Galaxy S4.”

Sam Mobile suggests that while Samsung dabbled with the idea of metal on the Galaxy S4, and it was received well internally, the idea was dropped owing to possible delays in mass production at launch time.

While Samsung’s Galaxy S range of smartphones have always been well received, and have been noted to have a surprisingly long shelf life, the consumers and media have chided Samsung for the plastic build quality, which is not in line with what the Apple iPhone 5 and now the HTC One have enticed users with. No details on what materials Samsung plans to use with the Galaxy Note III and beyond, but with aluminium being the most popular material with the rivals, selecting that would be a logical step.

The Galaxy Note III is rumoured feature a 6-inch AMOLED display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, Exynos 5 Octa processor with LTE for certain markets and a 13 megapixel camera.
