Samsung has cut the pricing of the 6GB RAM variant of the Galaxy S8 Plus (review) smartphone. The device is now priced at Rs. 65,900, a mere Rs. 1000 more than the 4GB variant of the phone. This is the second price cut in close succession, for the phone. Samsung had earlier brought its prices down to Rs. 70,900, from an original price point of nearly Rs. 75,000. While Samsung hasn’t explicitly said it, the price cut should be in anticipation for the Galaxy Note 8, which is to be launched in India in September.
Initial reports suggest that the Galaxy Note 8 will be priced above Rs. 70,000 in India, for the 64GB variant. Prices will rise thereon, with possible pricing for the 256GB variant touching Rs. 1 lakh.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was announced at an event in New York a couple of days ago. The smartphone starts selling in select global markets from September 15 onwards, and it’s expected to be announced in India around the same time. The phone runs on the Snapdragon 835 chipset from Qualcomm and has 6GB RAM. Barring a more rectangular design, the Note 8 is similar to the Galaxy S8 Plus in many ways.
The Note 8 is also Samsung’s first dual-camera smartphone, with dual-OIS. It comes with the company’s proprietary S-Pen and a 6.3 inch curved Infinity Display.
