Samsung consistently ranks among the top contenders for Android camera phones due to its exceptional features, reliability, and quality. However, remaining at the forefront requires continuous innovation. A new report has revealed that Samsung is expected to bring “AstroPortrait” mode to its high-end smartphones.
In the newest update of the Expert RAW app– an app exclusively for high-end Samsung phones–, Android Authority discovered several mentions of AstroPortrait mode.

According to the strings, it seems like AstroPortrait mode involves including someone in the photo with the night sky in the background. You snap the picture while they’re in the frame and have them move out quickly after the flash goes off. Then, the phone combines the shot of the night sky with the portrait to create a blended image.

The vivo X100 Pro, which was recently released, has a similar feature called Astro Portrait.
While Samsung’s AstroPortrait and Vivo’s Astro Portrait might seem similar, there could be differences in their performance. We will have to wait until Samsung officially launches its feature to see how it compares to Vivo’s version.
Another noteworthy detail from these strings is the inclusion of the word “lab” in the last string. This suggests that AstroPortrait will likely be placed under the “Labs” section of the Expert RAW app. Currently, this section contains features like the traditional astrophotography mode (referred to as “Astrophoto” by Samsung), multiple exposure photos, and a simulated neutral density (ND) filter mode.
The next anticipated phone launch from Samsung that will likely support the Expert RAW app is the Galaxy Z Fold 6, expected around late July or early August. “It’s possible Samsung could debut AstroPortrait with those phones as a marketing tactic,” the report said. However, the company could also quietly roll out this feature with an update at any time.
