Samsung may launch Galaxy Note 5 ahead of schedule to take-on iPhone 6s
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 may get launched next month, might sport a 4K display
Apple launched the iPhone 6 in the first week of September 2014, affecting sales of phones that were launched at IFA 2014, which incidentally happened around the same time. This year, Samsung might be planning ahead to avoid such a situation, and launch the next iteration of its well-known Note series next month. WSJ reports that the company might launch the Galaxy Note 5 in August at a private event instead of IFA 2015, which will happen in the first week of September.
The Note series has been one of Samsung's best offerings, combining specs from its flagship phone (presently, the Galaxy S6) and adding more features. If rumours are true, the upcoming phablet from Samsung will be powered by Samsung's Exynos 7422 chipset. This will be Samsung’s first attempt at packing the CPU, RAM, GPU, Storage and an LTE modem in a single package. In terms of upgrade, the Exynos 7422 will be a slender performance upgrade over the Exynos 7420 that is used in Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
The Exynos chip will comprise an octa-core processor, 4-6GB of RAM, and 32/64/128GB of storage. We can also expect a larger battery, and according to latest rumours, the Galaxy Note 5 will house a 4100mAh battery. We expect it to retain the 16MP camera sensor with OIS as seen in the Galaxy Note 4, although certain rumours suggest an upgrade to a new 20-megapixel sensor. The front-facing camera might also see a major upgrade. The Note 5 might also get a metal and glass build, like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and the Galaxy S6.
With the display being one of the major selling points for the Note series, we might see a 4K display on the Note 5 – a first for a smartphone. Samsung might fit the Note 5 with a 5.7-inch 4K resolution display, and there are rumours of a Galaxy Note Edge presently under development with a slightly larger display. Speculations suggest a 5.9-inch display to accommodate the edges in the Galaxy Note Edge. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 can be expected to be a worthy successor.
