Samsung may launch five flagship devices in 2017, including a foldable smartphone. According to a report by Sammobile, the company will launch the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 7 smartphones and their respective Edge variants, along with the Galaxy X, which is rumoured to have a foldable display. The Galaxy X is tipped to sport a 4K resolution display with a diamond PenTile subpixel arrangement, while the remaining four devices might come with a 2.5K Super AMOLED display with RBG subpixel arrangement.
Rumours of Samsung making a foldable smartphone have been circulating for quite a while. Back in 2014, it was reported that Samsung had filed for a patent for a foldable smartphone. Last year, it was rumoured that Samsung was working on two such devices, under the codename Project Valley. As per the report, one of the devices was powered by a Snapdragon 620 SoC (later renamed to Snapdragon 652), and the other by a Snapdragon 820 SoC. Last month, Korean website, ETNews, suggested that Samsung may start mass producing foldable displays by the end of this year, with a smartphone being available by 2017. The report also noted that the phone might resemble a conventional 5-inch smartphone that converts into a 7-inch tablet when opened.
