Samsung making Galaxy J Max with massive display?
Giant phablets on the rise again.
It seems like huge phones may soon be a fad again. According to a tweet by Evan Blass, Samsung is working on a 'huge' phablet, appropriately named the Galaxy J Max. The image posted by Blass only shows the top half of the rear, which includes the camera, flash and speaker. Also noticeable is the rather large frame of the device. While he has not posted any details about the phone, it is speculated that the device may sport a 7-inch display. Considering that the phone may be a member of Samsung’s J series of smartphones, it will most likely come with mid-range specifications.
If Samsung does decide to launch the device, it won't have the market all to itself. Xiaomi recently launched the Mi Max smartphone that sports a huge 6.44-inch display. In India, the device is available in two variants, one with a Snapdragon 650 SoC and 3GB of RAM, while the other with a Snapdragon 652 SoC with 4GB of RAM. The two phones are priced at Rs. 14,999 and Rs. 19,999 respectively. Lenovo has also partnered with Google's Project Tango to bring the PHAB2, PHAB2 Pro and PHAB2 Plus, three phablets capable of rendering in Augmented Reality.
Although phablets are somewhat cumbersome to carry around, the appeal lies with a very niche audience looking for a big screen device but do not want a separate tablet. While the huge display makes it difficult to place the device in pockets, watching movies and playing games is admittedly more enjoyable.
