The device features a single ultra-thin flexible OLED panel that bends in both directions.

A multi-layered hinge structure and ultra-thin glass (UTG) may support durability and a slim design.

The patent suggests a triple rear camera setup, but details on a front camera remain unclear.

After the leaks about a tri-fold device, Samsung is said to be developing a new 360-degree foldable phone. According to reports, the company recently filed a patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), indicating that the South Korean giant intends to release a phone that can fold both inwards and outwards. It all makes sense, given that the company previously unveiled a similar concept phone in 2023 but did not reveal any details about its release.

The device is said to get different inner and outer screens, unlike conventional devices. The company will reportedly use a single ultra-thin flexible OLED panel to make this concept possible. This mechanism will allow the display to bend in both directions, giving the users an option to switch between a compact phone mode and a full-screen.

As per the patent filed, the device will get two folding areas placed between rigid sections and will be supported by the multi-layered hinge structure. Additionally, the device may use ultra-thin glass (UTG) to ensure durability while maintaining a slim form factor. This will allow the screen to fold outwards, eliminating the need for a cover display.

The camera module, as per the patent, will be situated on a raised island which will remain accessible while the device is folded or unfolded. The patent also reveals that the device can get three rear cameras with no mention of an under-display front camera.

While the patent demonstrates an innovative approach to foldable smartphones, not all patents lead to commercial products. If developed, this design has the potential to impact the foldable phone market, but it may be years before such a device becomes a reality.
