Samsung Galaxy S9 to launch with Snapdragon 845, Android 8.0.0 Oreo: Report
The Galaxy S9 is tipped to have the same 18:9 display found on the Galaxy S8 and will come with 4GB RAM coupled with 64GB storage
Information circulating the Internet suggests that Samsung’s next flagship, the Galaxy S9 will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 Platform, sport 4GB RAM and 64GB built in storage and run Android O out of the box. The smartphone is also expected to have a new Samsung TouchWiz UI. It is also possible that there will be a variant of the smartphone that will be powered by the Exynoss SoC. According to XDA, “Samsung will be securing the first batch of this new chip (Snapdragon 845), possibly delaying other 845 phones by a few months again. Finally, our source tells us that the fingerprint sensor will be in a centered rectangular cutout — while this seemingly rules out an in-display fingerprint scanner, keep in mind the device our source is acquainted is essentially an early prototype, and this might change further in development.”
It isn’t clear whether Samsung will bring the dual-camera setup from the Note 8. About the camera on the S9, XDA says, “This bit is a little confusing still, though if they intend to bring dual cameras for the S9 it’s possible that mounting placement will be similar to that of the Note 8, if you were to rotate the entire camera and sensor array 90 degrees clockwise. We haven’t heard rumors that the Galaxy S9 will ship with the dual camera array from the Note 8 so far, but it is highly likely that it will.”
It is still to early to predict what the Galaxy S9 will be, but if history is to be believed, then Samsung will not change too much between the S8 family of devices and the S9 as far as design is concerned. We can however expect some design refinements.
Samsung recently announced the Galaxy Note 8 and the device is expected to launch in India in September. Coming to the specifications of the Galaxy Note 8, the smartphone features a larger 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 2960×1440 pixels. The device has 6GB of RAM and comes with 64GB storage onboard, with options for 128GB and 256GB versions also. The Galaxy Note 8 sports the Snapdragon 835 chipset, and a 3300mAh battery, along with dual-12MP cameras on the back. The Note 8 is Samsung’s first dual-camera smartphone. The front of the device has an 8MP camera.
