Samsung introduced the facial recognition technology on its smartphones with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, unfortunately the feature didn’t work as the company intended. Now, according to a report by Chinese website, MyDrivers, Samsung is planning on introducing a 3D facial recognition feature on its next year flagship, the Galaxy S9.
Apple says that its Face ID is pretty secure and accurate. The company said that the Face ID fail debacle during their keynote event was the result of too many people trying the feature beforehand. Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 also sports facial recognition, but it could be easily fooled using a photo instead of an actual face.
The report further reaffirms rumours of Samsung Galaxy S9 being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 platform. Samsung has reportedly purchased almost the entire first batch of the Snapdragon 845 chipsets. This is not the first time the company has done something like this. In 2016, Samsung nearly purchased the entire stock of the Snapdragon 835 for its Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphones.
Not much is known in terms of the specifications of the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus smartphones, but reports suggest that the smartphones will feature a similar design as the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. The Snapdragon 845 is also expected to be based on 10nm architecture and feature a combination of Cortex A75 cores, Adreno 630 graphics and an X20 LTE modem.
