New reports suggest that Samsung may instead choose to launch their device in February at MWC, or at an exclusive event in March

It seems like we may not see an early unveil for Samsung’s next flagship smartphones after all. While previous reports had suggested that Samsung was planning to launch the Galaxy S9 series of devices at CES 2018, a new report by the Korea Herald states that this might not be the case. The report adds that the Korean company may instead choose to unveil it at MWC 2018 in February, or at their own launch event in March.

This report doesn't match up to a claim made by notable tipster, Evan Blass, aka @evleaks who tweeted that the Samsung Galaxy S9 series would make a “cameo” at CES. Samsung has not yet revealed any details regarding the launch of its next flagship device yet.

Blass’ report does note that while Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S9 series at CES, it will hold a separate official launch event in March for the devices. As per the report, the new devices are expected to be almost identical to their predecessors in terms of build and design. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are tipped to sport 5.8-inch and 6.2 inch Super AMOLED Infinity Displays, respectively. The Galaxy S9+ is also expected to offer 6GB of RAM as compared to 4GB of RAM on the Galaxy S9, but both are expected to offer 64GB of storage with a microSD card slot. Further, the phone is expected to retain the 3.5mm audio jack.

The Galaxy S9 was recently spotted on GeekBench and the specifications listed on the website lined with Blass’ report. The listing also suggested that the phone would come with Android Oreo, which is expected from a 2018 flagship device. Like before, Samsung is expected to have two variants, one powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC and another powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 SoC.
